South African Archbishop Desmond Tutu dies
The 1984 Nobel Peace Prize winner and Archbishop Desmond Tutu of South Africa passed away today at the age of 90. South African President Rama Phosha has confirmed this news.
Desmond Mpilo Tutu, formerly translated by Tu Demin, is the Emeritus Archbishop of the Anglican Diocese of Cape Town and the first African-American Archbishop of the Anglican Church of South Africa. He is known as the pioneer of human rights theology. Tu Tu is also the winner of the 1984 Nobel Peace Prize. He has been committed to abolishing the apartheid policy in South Africa since the 1980s. In 1995, he began to lead the "Truth and Reconciliation Commission" to promote the transitional justice in South Africa and is well-known in the world.
