King's record of the world's largest church in Ivory Coast, Africa
The Basilica of Our Lady of Peace in Yamoussoukro is a Roman Catholic secondary sanctuary in Yamoussoukro, the administrative capital of Ivory Coast. It was built between 1985 and 1989 at a cost of 300 million U.S. dollars. Guinness World Records ranks it as the world’s most cathedral, four times the size of St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome. It covers an area of 30,000 square meters, is 195 meters long and 158 meters high. However, the total area includes the priest’s residence and the pope’s villa, which does not belong to the church strictly speaking. It can accommodate 18,000 believers, while St. Peter’s Basilica can accommodate 60,000 people. But the main hall is not a cathedral. The nearby St. Augustine's Cathedral is the main cathedral and main place of worship of the Catholic Diocese of Yamoussoukro.
